Data theft at Desjardins: emergency meeting in Ottawa on Monday

This Monday will be the emergency meeting of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa on data theft at Desjardins.

This meeting, requested by four members of the committee, will take place between 1 pm and 6 pm in the camera.

The data leak, announced on June 20, affects 2.9 million Desjardins Group members. This is about 2.7 million individual members and 173,000 corporate members.

A Desjardins employee accessed this data and has since been fired.

Some data would have been sold to criminal groups, according to our Investigation Bureau.

The Laval police initially supported the police investigation, but the Sûreté du Québec is also involved.

Two investigations are also conducted by the Quebec Access to Information Commission and by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
